Project Overview

Rooted in the East is an immersive exhibition exploring contemporary interpretations of Chinese intangible cultural heritage. Developed during an internship at TEAM_BLDG for Shang Cheng Shi, the project transforms cultural narratives into a sequence of experiential spaces featuring exhibitions, installations, performances, workshops, and public gatherings. The exhibition combines traditional craftsmanship with contemporary spatial design, creating an environment where visitors can engage with heritage through observation, participation, and collective experience.

Entrance Pavilion / Tea Room

Description

The entrance space serves as the beginning of the exhibition journey. Defined by a suspended fabric canopy and a reflective water feature, the room creates a calm and contemplative atmosphere that encourages visitors to slow down before entering the exhibition. Inspired by traditional gathering rituals, the space functions as a contemporary tea room where reflection, conversation, and cultural exchange become part of the visitor experience.
