A private residence designed for a multi-generational family in Nara, Japan. The house is organized into three interconnected volumes, providing separate living quarters for a couple and their mother while maintaining shared family spaces through a central connecting zone. Developed in collaboration with Japanese structural engineers, the project combines contemporary residential living with timber construction and carefully detailed interior spaces.
Contributed to the design development phase during an internship at TEAM_BLDG, supporting architectural coordination, technical modelling, and physical prototyping.
- Developed a detailed structural model in SketchUp from engineering drawings.
- Produced elevation studies, renderings, and presentation materials.
- Assisted in the design of interior elements and architectural details.
- Coordinated openings with roof framing and structural layouts.
- Fabricated and assembled a 1:50 physical presentation model.
Final Architectural Model
The final model illustrates the overall massing and spatial organization of the residence. Three distinct volumes are arranged around a central courtyard, creating a balance between private living spaces and shared family areas. The dark timber exterior and pitched roof forms reference traditional Japanese residential architecture while establishing a contemporary identity for the house.
