Project Overview

Fireside Memories is an experimental dwelling designed for Soonja, a fictional character from the film Minari, situated within Perdana Botanical Gardens, Kuala Lumpur. Inspired by the preparation of kimchi from napa cabbage, the project translates Soonja's journey of hardship, resilience, and hope into architecture through three spatial zones: a calm kitchen and preparation space, a warm communal hearth, and a quiet fermentation chamber. Together, these spaces transform the rituals of cooking and gathering into a narrative journey that reflects memory, transformation, and renewal.

Ground Floor Plan

Description

The ground floor establishes the primary narrative sequence of the house through the preparation, gathering, and fermentation of kimchi. Visitors first encounter the kitchen and preparation spaces, representing the calm beginnings of Soonja's journey. The circulation then converges around a central hearth and courtyard, which acts as the emotional heart of the house before leading towards the enclosed fermentation chamber. Together, the plan demonstrates how domestic activities are transformed into a spatial retelling of the character's story.
