PANGCORE is a living museum dedicated to preserving the boatmaking heritage of Pangkor through architecture, community engagement, and active participation. Located within the existing Hoo Huat Boat Factory, the proposal seeks to safeguard a craft that has traditionally relied on generational knowledge passed down through practice rather than written documentation. PANGCORE allows visitors to experience the culture directly alongside craftsmen and the local community. It transforms the factory into a cultural anchor where heritage remains active, visible, and continuously shared with future generations.
Sectional Perspective
The sectional perspective illustrates the relationship between the museum and the existing boatmaking factory. New exhibition spaces are elevated above the working environment, allowing visitors to observe the construction process while maintaining the daily operations of the craftsmen below. The section reveals how circulation, viewing platforms, workshops, and public gathering spaces are layered vertically to create a continuous journey through the building. By exposing both structure and activity, the architecture celebrates the craftsmanship that inspired the project while reinforcing the museum's role as a living vessel of cultural preservation.
